An article in today's Engineering News Record reminded me of one of the more unusual and perhaps 'coolest' condo projects of the last five years.
200 11th Avenue is a nearly complete 19-story ultra-luxury residential condominium building with 15 units. The building was designed by celebrity architects, and will feature a "townhouse in the sky" concept. Fourteen of the 15 units will have their own garage attached to their respective apartments. Access will be by a vehicle elevator system in the rear of the building that will essentially allow residents to drive directly into their apartments, even 18 floors up from ground level.
It has been marketed as having "paparazzi proof" apartments.
ENR, which doesn't usually cover much residential construction, looks at more of the design and engineering issues instead of the usual sales focus.
The building itself has an ordinary design, and although very high-end interiors, the exterior is merely typical.
But those garages in the sky are very cool!
