21Elephants is continuing our series on the buildings (mainly residential) of the recent boom. I'm amending it slightly to include the best, the worst and the just plain "blah"
Up today is a building that was never built (or at least not yet): 85 Flatbush Avenue Extension.
The original design is by Ismael Leyva and was intended to be a condo:

85 Flatbush Av Ext.: Original design as a condo
85 Flatbush Av Ext. More recent design as a rental building

I'd put these in the indifferent category, although the first design obviously had more potential. But these are only renderings-- either design could have turned out better or worse than the renderings made it look.

The site is rather prominent- situated on the NE corner of Flatbush & Tilary, right at the entrance to the Manhattan Bridge. It's also sort-of triangular. Although neither of these buildings are great architecture, at least the original version aimed to capitalize on the site. The newer version looks almost like an office building. It is also, very slightly, cheaper.
