Bob Arihood at http://neithermorenorless.com has done several great series on construction cranes-that ubiquitous symbol of the recent building boom. With his photos and old-fashioned investigative reporting, he covered better than anyone, the several crane collapses that occurred at the peak of the building boom. (Probably also doesn't hurt that he has an understanding of engineering).
This photo is from his March 2008 archive. It is a shot of a correctly rigged crane on 23rd Street; cranes which collapsed are on his site as well.
